Dick Goody says that art is “about the look of things versus the problem of ideas.” Whether his work is about looks, problems, things or ideas, his small pencil drawings, which combine text and image, are studies for larger paintings. Savage and sarcastic rather than earnest, these emblematic, embryonic images articulate a certain look which unites crudeness and vulnerability with pathos and irony. Frontal and lush, they exploit paradigms of beauty, banality and sexuality capable of confronting suspect conventional values.
"This is deeply troubling and a bit
disturbing!"
