On the Wall
for Real Detroit
Jan 3, 2007
Douglas Gordon first came to prominence with 24 HOUR
Psycho, a Turner Prize winning effort in his native Britain that took
Hitchcock's seminal classic and turned it into a one-frame per second
"meditation" on the magic of visual narrative.
Perhaps inspired by this country's way of doing things,
Gordon has modified his original work, colorized it and put the pedal to
the metal for a crisp 60 seconds.
ONE MINUTE PSYCHO showers the viewer with a wild rush
through the Bates Motel legend then revs up again before you have a chance
to towel off or mop up. Is it genius or lunacy? Hey we all go a little mad
sometimes. You can all go to the Museum of New Art where the mach speed
Gordon show will be screened until January 24.
